Unit 4 - Portfolio VIDEO WALK-THROUGHUnit 4 - Portfolio Assignment
Directions:
In this portfolio, you are asked to test the conductivity of different solutions. I have found a video that does this for you. Your job is to watch this video lab, and complete the portfolio questions below. You will need to watch the video from the beginning to 7:30 to see the entire lab experiment. You ONLY need to analyze the virtual experiment for the results of KI, KCl, glucose, and paraffin. There are three lessons connected to this portfolio assignment, and each has valuable information that can help you complete this assignment. Lab Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VGXvCyPkTS8 COMPLETE THE FOLLOWING: 1. Create a model of how the conductivity tester works. This device is explained at 4:24 in the video. Remember that a good model includes pictures, labels, arrows to show motion and direction, and it shows what might be happening that cannot be seen with the human eye. (6 pts) 2. Create a data collection table that includes the following information: (6 pts)
4. Explain what cross-contamination is and how it was avoided in the lab experiment. (2 pts) 5. Explain how the results would have been different had the person conducting the lab performed multiple trials for each substance. What is the advantage of performing multiple trials? (2 pts) 6. What would you expect to happen if you performed the same tests with rubbing alcohol (C3H8O) and salt water (NaCl). Explain their solubility, conductivity, brightness, and bond type and explain your reasoning behind each one. (4 pts) Unit 4 Portfolio Template![]()
